How to Find a Truly Great Gourmet Coffee Club

These days it’s not hard to find a gourmet coffee club promising to deliver samplings of the world’s best java to your door step for a modest monthly fee. If you’ve brought up the subject with your coffee-loving friends, though, you probably already heard a few stories of clubs that deliver nothing more than disappointment.

You know, the ones that get you trapped in a long-term contract and send bland, boring blends month after month hoping most of their customers just forget to cancel. So how can you make sure you don’t get stuck with one of those? Here’s an easy three-step plan.

advice-180Know what are you’re looking for
Beyond just getting coffee, think about what specific benefits you’re want to get by joining a gourmet coffee club. Are you hoping to discover unusual and exotic blends? Do you want to sample flavored coffees like rum, Irish cream, and pecan? Or do you simply appreciate the convenience of good quality coffee showing up at your house on schedule every month?

Short list a few clubs
Now comes the fun part. Get online and browse around for coffee clubs that look more or less like they meet your requirements. Don’t just rely on your search skills to turn up the best coffee clubs, though. Stop by a few coffee connoisseur forums and ask for input. After all, it might turn out that the coffee club that can meet your needs best is run by an obscure little company you’d have never discovered on your own. Try to pick out at least five different clubs that look promising.

Do a little in-depth research
One you have your short list drawn up you can go back and start narrowing down your selection. First look at things like the types of coffee offered, how much you’ll receive for the price, whether you’ll get any extras like chocolate samples or coffee mugs, and whether or not the coffee is organic, fair trade or otherwise specially certified. After that, you’ll also want to look at the fine print like the fee structure, cancellation policy, and returns policy.

A gourmet coffee of the month club should give you a fun and easy way to explore unique quality coffees and not just another blot on your monthly on your credit card statement. While there are some less than excellent clubs out there, you can easily avoid them by spending a little time browsing for good mail order coffee clubs and researching carefully before you sign up.
